The BB&T Football Jamboree will kick off at Legion Stadium on Friday; the action begins at 6:00.
Wallace-Rose Hill and Laney square off in the first game. "We’re excited to be part of the BB&T Jamboree again and we're excited to be playing a very tough state champion Wallace-Rose Hill team,” said Laney Head Coach Greg Ditz.
The Ashley Screaming Eagles will tangle with South Columbus in the second game of the evening. "The Jamboree is always a great kickoff to the season. It's a great atmosphere. It gets the kids out of Tabor City into a little bigger place in front of a great crowd," said South Columbus Head Coach Jake Fonvielle.
And that crowd will get to see Hoggard square off with West Brunswick in the third game of the night. After that it will be Whiteville and Jacksonville. Both schools have new head coaches this year; Beau Williams at Jacksonville and Baxter Morris at Whiteville.
The finale in the 24th Annual BB&T Jamboree will be New Hanover and South Brunswick.
"We're the last ones. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. We hope to be able to compete. The coach at South Brunswick has done a good job. They've got 4 or 5 kids that will be D-1 players," said New Hanover Head Coach Kevin Motsinger.
Former New Hanover quarterback and former major league outfielder Trot Nixon attended Tuesday's luncheon. Trot is now a member of the media and the new co-host of the 5th Quarter football show on WWAY every Friday night. "It’ll be a lot of fun,” Nixon said. “I know when I was younger I enjoyed seeing highlights of our team on television. Everyone at that age likes seeing themselves on television." And you can see Trot Nixon on television on WWAY starting August 20th.
