July 4th Riverfront Celebration info

Sunday, July 4, riverfront celebration
The streetfair on Water Street will begin at 5 p.m. with food vendors and musical entertainment. Fireworks will begin at 9:05 p.m. from the Battleship North Carolina.

Street closures: Water Street between Market and Grace streets and the 00 blocks of Market and Princess streets will close to vehicular traffic at 2 p.m. on Sunday; Chestnut Street between 3rd and Front streets will close at 5 p.m. The Wilmington Police Department anticipates closing streets west of 3rd Street toward the river in the downtown area by 6 p.m. Once on-street spaces and parking decks are full, streets will be closed to vehicular traffic.

Parking: Anyone planning to park on the street or in one of the parking decks should arrive early. There will be a $5 fee to park in the city parking decks located in the 100 block of Market Street and in the 100 block of North 2nd Street.

Traffic: EXPECT DELAYS when arriving and leaving the downtown area due to the large volume of traffic for the event. Longer delays should be expected for those parking in any of the decks due to high volumes of traffic exiting at one time. All vehicles should park on the side of downtown (with Chestnut Street being the dividing line) that is closest to the direction they will be leaving after the fireworks. All traffic parked SOUTH of Chestnut Street will be diverted SOUTH toward Market and Dawson streets and the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge. All traffic parked NORTH of Chestnut Street will be diverted NORTH toward the MLK Parkway and the Isabel Holmes Bridge. See the city's website at wilmingtonnc.gov for more information.
