Kitchen Cops 12/13/07

READ MORE:
A trio of New Hanover County restaurants have some work to do after a visit from health inspectors. This week's lowest score belongs to the Hilton Garden Inn at Mayfaire. Points off for food stored the wrong way in the cooler and freezer and drinks stored on and above food prep areas. More points for soiled food prep sinks and soiled multi-use food containers. Chemicals stores on and above the food prep sink. Dry foods need to be stored properly. The Hilton Garden Inn scores an 85. Hibachi Express on South College Road lost five points because beverage containers shall not be stored on or above food contact surfaces and the inspector saw a worker drop broccoli on the floor and put in back in a container. Beef was too warm in the cooler truck and cooked chicken was too cold. Food containers, pots, pans, utensils, cutting board and ice dispenser chute were dirty after cleaning. And several other things need cleaning. 85.5 for Hibachi Express. And finally a repeat offender. This year Valino's on Carolina Beach Road has had scores of 86.5, 93.5, 81.5 and 85. Toxic materials need to be stored and labeled properly. Gravy and cooked potatoes were at the wrong temperature. And raw meats need to be stored below ready-to-eat foods. An 86 for Valino's. Three New Hanover County restaurants made this week's high performers list. Port City Chop House at 1981 Eastwood Road in Wilmington scored a perfect 100 plus two points for workers passing a food safety course. The same top score of 102 goes to Temptations Everyday Gourmet on Market Street in Porters Neck. And Portofino Deli at 5552 Carolina Beach Road lost half a point for storing mops the wrong way. Add back two points for workers passing a food safety course for a score of 101.5.

this is all just a joke

I know for a fact that this is just a big joke. I have worked in restaurants since I was very young. If you report something wrong at a restaurant the health inspectors call that restaurant and tell them they don't go in and check without warning them. I had a friend that worked at the goody goody and she says that the lady that owns it is always doing disgusting stuff. She drops hamburger on her shoe and picks it back up and uses it because it didn't hit the floor. My friend saw that for a fact. I have never eaten there again because of all the things she says goes on there. And I have heard other stuff about other places. I would just as soon eat at home. So how do you become a health inspector I think that job would be pretty cushy.

food inspections

Try going to Hardee's at Ogden...I have seen workers make change and run back and make hamburgers without washing hands. Also kitchen help not wearing gloves and wiping hands in towels laying around and making food orders. Also most of them are working in reverse. I was in line for 5 minutes and there were only 2 people ahead of me. The store was almost empty and that should have been a clue as it was 12:30 and should have been packed...about the goody goody shop...that lady is very money conscience so she would probably pick the hamburger up if it hit the floor....I have seen her do the same thing with bacon
