Five New Hanover County restaurants have work to do after the latest visit from the health inspector. Two eateries share this week's lowest score. We start at the Roly Poly at Shipyard Boulevard and 17th Street in Wilmington. Five points off for a worker handling money then sandwiches without washing their hands... not that it would matter much, because there was no antibacterial soap available at the employee handsink. Five more points off because the sanitizer for the utensil sink was not the proper strength. Chicken salad and cheese were too warm in the prep cooler. And the thermometers in the reach-in cooler and sandwich prep cooler were broken. Eleven violations in all for a score of 77.5 for Roly Poly. Heading north to Castle Hayne Road and the General Electric Plant. Five points off for raw chicken, cooked pasta and cooked food all at the wrong temperature. Five more for food stored on the floor of the freezer and raw meat stored above ready-to-eat food and beside cooked food. Five more because food contact surfaces must be cleaned and sanitized. And workers need to wash hands when changing job tasks. Eleven violations for a 77.5 at GE. The Wilmington 76 Auto Truck Stop on Highway 421 North lost five points for cooked foods too cold. Workers need to wash hands when changing job tasks. And lots of cleaning is needed. Eleven violations and a score of 80. To Downtown Wilmington and Peking Gourmet on South Front Street. Five points off for chicken, rice, noodles and garlic in oil at the wrong temperature. Five more for noodles stored on meat sink next to raw chicken and on veggie sink immediately after shrimp. And several things need cleaning. 85.5 for Peking Gourmet. Finally to the Moose Lodge on Carolina Beach Road. Unwrapped food needs to be covered and protected from customers. There was no sanitizer provided. And the water had been turned off at the prep sink. Eighty-six for the Wilmington Moose Lodge. This week's Kitchen Cops high performers list is a short one. Workers at Port City Java in Carolina Beach need to remember they must wear effective hair restraints. That half-point deduction is the only thing standing in the way of a perfect score.
