READ MORE:
Several restaurants get a second chance with local health inspectors and four Brunswick County eateries have some work to do. Our re-inspections begin at Banyan Asian Cafe and Club Tropicana on Market Street, which earned a 76 recently. This time around it lost points for coconut and curry sauces at the wrong temperature and the ceiling peeling near the dish sink Pans were stored wet, dry food need to be in properly labeled containers and tortillas were in unapproved bag. Still, a better than 16-point improvement to 92.5. A big improvement for Peanuts at Beau Rivage. Just a point off for general cleaning needed. A score of 99 up from 85.5 last month. The Wendy's in Porters Neck made big improvements. Just a couple of violations including flies in the dish area. The inspector also said workers need to let containers and utensils air dry. Wendy's jumped more than 13 points to 98.5. The Texas Roadhouse on Eastwood Road goes from "B" to "A." Food contact surfaces still need some work. The staff needs to air dry pots, pans and dishes. And floors, walls and ceilings need cleaning. Texas roadhouse goes from 86.5 to 92. And two rescores in Brunswick County. The Pizza Hut on North Main Street in Shallotte still needs to work on air drying containers and some other cleaning and maintenance issues. But the restaurant is up eight points to 93. And in Oak Island an improvement for Fiesta en Oceana, though the inspector marked off five points because the staff needs to do a better job with hand washing. Some equipment and fixtures need some cleaning, as does the floor in the bar. Six points higher to 92.5 for Fiesta en Oceana. Four low performers in Brunswick County. Starting at China King in Ocean Isle. Three five-point violations including improper food temperatures, food stored uncovered and dishes need to be washed properly. A 79 for China King. To the Subway at the Pantry on Ocean Highway in Supply. Five points off for improper food temperatures. The inspector also said food preparers need to wear hair restraints and all equipment needs a thorough cleaning. An 80 for Subway in Supply. Down the road in Calabash, the staff at Nesbitts Jackass Saloon should not eat, drink or smoke in the kitchen. They also need to keep personal items like cigarettes out of the utensil drawer and do some cleaning. An 83 for Nesbitts. Finally up the coast to Oak Island. An inspector found chicken at Island Way that smelled spoiled. There were also problems with food temperatures and a waitress eating in the kitchen. The inspector called that "a no-no." An 87 for Island Way.
