Kitchen Cops 10/4/07

Health inspectors found one low performer and gave five more restaurants another chance. This week's low score belongs to The Kitchen on Carolina Beach Road in Wilmington, where an inspector found 11 violations. The staff needs to store and cover all food properly and not directly on shelving. All worker beverages need to be kept below food work surfaces. The prep sink was disconnected, but immediately repaired. And several areas need cleaning. 82 for the kitchen. Now some regrades starting with a third chance for the Pizza Hut on Oleander Drive in Wilmington. In August it earned an 87.5. Last month it lost nine points on a reinspection. The third time is still not the charm. The roaches are gone, but the flies are still there. 83.5 for Pizza Hut on Oleander. To Bald Head Island and the River Pilot Café. It scored an 80 last month. This time around it's 92.5. Big Nell's Pit Stop in Ocean Isle Beach also made strides. An 84 last time is now a 95. Back to Wilmington and Old Chicago on Market Street. It scored an 85 last time. Just a couple of violations this time and a 97.5. And finally the Hardee's at 1900 Castle Hayne Road improves from an 84.5 to a 98. Our long list of high performers starts with Little Dipper in downtown Wilmington. A perfect 100 plus two points for workers passing a food safety course. The same score of 102 for Luigi's at 6621 Market Street, as well as Oceanic at Wrightsville Beach, Rucker John's in Monkey Junction, Temptation's Everyday Gourmet in Porters Neck, Zooi Euro Bistro in the Forum Shopping Center on Military Cutoff, Quizno's on South College Road, Andy's Cheesesteaks and Cheeseburgers on Gordon Road and Carolina Sunset on Lewis Road in Carolina Beach. A perfect 100 goes to Little Pond Caterers in Wilmington, as well as Personal Touch Catering, Jackson's Big Oak Bar-B-Que on South Kerr Avenue and the Subway at Maco Depot in Leland. Staying in Brunswick County, a half-point off for the Boundary House in Calabash. A 99.5 as well for Meadowlands Golf Club in Calabash, Plaza Garibaldi on Main Street in Shallotte and Hoobie's Pizza on Exchange Drive in Wilmington.
