With 5 consecutive losses to start the season, the Laney Buccaneers need a little taste of victory. To get it Monday night they had to knock off Lumberton, but Lumberton definitely came to play. The Pirates established the running game early, taking advantage of the holes in the Laney defense. Running back Larry Parker gave Lumberton an early 7-0 lead. Laney on the other hand came out passing like it was going out of style, but for a variety of reasons, the passing game was not productive. Maurice Lewis of Lumberton showed he has the ability to break tackles. He scored the second touchdown of the night. From 4 yards out Kendrick McGill makes it 21-0 in favor of the visiting team. That is how it stood at halftime. The second half was more of the same. Lumberton knocked off Laney 34-7. Tevin Clay scored the only Laney touchdown in the fourth quarter.
