Highway patrol wants to remind you to take extra precaution when driving through a school zone, or near a school bus. Nationwide, the number of school zone violations has gone up, and that has local law enforcement agencies cracking down. Highway patrol wants drivers to know these are serious violations that can lead to serious consequences. "We're out here protecting out most precious commodity, which is the children,” said First Sgt. Morris. “That is why we put the extra effort out here, especially during the school year and around these school zones." A violation, like passing a school bus, could mean five points on your license, plus court costs.

Patroling

Sure wish that the school zones in Pender County were being watched at least once in awhile. People drivng up on those school zones actually speed up so that you can't pull out of the schools. In front of Cape Fear Middle/Elementary and Trask High it is horrible. People are going 60 miles an hour because thy are so afraid they might have to slow down to the actual 45 if someone pulls out of the school. It's really crazy.
