Legion Stadium opens up Pooch Plunge

As the dog days of summer continue, man's best friend gets the chance to cool off this week. The swimming pool at Wilmington's Legion Stadium is going to the dogs. Every day this week the city is holding a Pooch Plunge. For five dollars, you can let your dog swim between the hours of 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. Saturday, the Pooch Plunge is from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Pender County Humane Society.

First Time for US!

I think it's pretty epic that Wilmington, NC opens up a public pool for the dogs at the end of the summer. The DOGS are in heaven and it's a beautiful fing' to watch. Makes living here more "doable." Keep it up Whim!

Pooch Plunge rocks!

I look forward to this every year. All the dogs have a blast. The dogs look like synchronized swimmers whever someone throws a ball. Its great!

Well I can assure you I will never go back to that pool again now. Thank you for letting us know how disgusting that water will be from now on.

ignorance of no longer interested

Do you really think the pool is not cleaned before it's open to the public again? Your ignorance is clearly part of the reason we don't have more pet friendly events in wilmington! Thank you for your negetive comment!

Unlike some human swimmers

Unlike some human swimmers I've encountered, these dogs might actually get out of the pool to pee.

They drain the pool at the end of each summer and and refill at the beginning of the next summer.

Thx Guesty

I see that unlike you, others are not so quick to realize that they drain the pool. It is so disheartening that you have to explain everyday life to some dim witted people. Find the helmets and the short bus for "Swim With Dogs?", as he or she doesn't understand the drain the pool in the winter concept.

I would rather swim with the dogs than some of the humans that have been seen in the pool from news reports.

Swim with the dogs

Guess you never swim in the ocean either. By the way, the city pools closed for the season on August 22 BEFORE this started. The city does this every year after the pools are closed & before they are drained. I think it's a great event and for a good cause. Maybe you didn't read the part that said no humans were allowed in the water.

Why is the city of Wilmington supporting the Pender County Humane Society? What is wrong with our dogs?
