Leland man killed in hunting accident

LELAND -- Family members say a freak deer hunting accident killed a 22-year-old Leland man. Justin Sellers's body was found Wednesday night in some woods in Winnabow. Family members say Sellers was lowering his gun from a tree stand when the rifle went off, firing a bullet through Sellers's heart. His father says he still supports hunting, but has some advice for other hunters out there. Chad Sellers said, "They need to take the North Carolina safety hunters course and it will teach you how to properly lower your gun to the ground. That's basically what happened is he didn't tie the gun off right." Chad Sellers says his son took the course and had been hunting since he was a child. His family is still unsure as to why sellers lowered the gun improperly.

I am wondering if people have thought about the fact that a grand jury does not convene on hearsay! The FBI/SBI does not go to all of this expense without proper cause. It's the law. Mr. Hewett , if you are not guilty of any of these misdeeds then put your trust in the justice system you are so fond of and took a oath to uphold and let it do it's job. If you are guilty; then please be a man about it. Please do not cause futher harm to your family by taking your life. I believe it you were raise in the south that you have learned somewhere along the way that this would not be acceptable to God. I can promise you one thing... no matter what happens your mother will always be there who ever she is. Mothers stand by their children. Repent to God and leave the rest in his hands. Just my observation. No judgement intented!

Remembering Justin

I just wanted to let Shelia and her family know that I still think of Justin everyday. I have the greatest memories running through my head all the time and I really dont think that they will ever stop. Justin was a friend to everyone he met and was much loved. I miss you justin! Love ash

Justin Sellers

I didn't know this young man, but knew his parents. I can't begin to tell them how sorry I am for their loss. His dad loved him dearly and did all he could for him. I hope and pray that the Lord will comfort you in this time of loss. If there is anything that I could do, I would be there in a flash. And to his dad, keep the faith and "it will be alright."

Rest in Peace Justin

Justin will be missed by so many. Those that had any interaction with him no matter how much or how little felt his presence. My thoughts and prayers go out to all his friends and family during this time in there life.

Didn't know him

I didn't know him but some good can come out of this. Hopefully other hunters will take the time to check their weapon before crossing a fence or entering or exiting a stand. Make sure it isn't chambered.

We will all greatly miss his laughter!!!!

Justin, was such a great kid! I always loved seeing him at the American Legion Jr boys games. He kept everyone laughing and I know in my heart he will be at the games with us watching over everyone and he will be our angel in the field! Anyone who knew Justin was blessed by his presence and knew it. My heart breaks for Shelia and Chad! They loved Justin and life will be so sad for them and we all need to pray for them to keep them strong! Anyone who can think about Justin can put a smile on their face because he always done it for us!Let's all try to be there for his family and when we think of Justin remember all the happy times he gave us and how special he touched our hearts!

What's sad is...............

This man lost his life doing what he enjoyed, and yet there are a whole lot of people in Wilmington doing drugs, selling drugs, and prostitutes, and yet GOD lets them carry on. I hope he has great plans for this man....
