Leland tree giveaway

Spring is almost here and to prepare for it, the town of Leland gave away thousands of trees on Saturday. There were lots of tree species to choose from and were given out free of charge, on a first come first serve basis. Event organizer, Steven Spruill, says tree planting helps beautify the community while protecting the environment. “You get the beautification of the area with the new trees being planted. We have a lot of development going on in the area so we lose a lot of trees every year so replacing them is always important.” The event was a part of Leland’s third annual Free Tree Giveaway and Bike Festival. The town’s Storm Water Management Division sponsored the giveaway.
