CLAYTON, N.C.-- Police say a trailer loaded with liquor that was stolen in North Carolina earlier this month has been found in Florida, but the booze is missing.
Capt. Jon Gerrell of the Clayton Police Department said Thursday the trailer was located Tuesday near the Everglades by the Miami-Dade County Police Department. The trailer wasn't damaged and the license plates had been removed. The tractor from the rig had been found abandoned in a parking lot off Interstate 40 a few days after the rig was stolen.
Police said the truck was stolen May 2 behind a Clayton restaurant where the driver had parked and locked it. The $150,000 worth of liquor was destined for a state liquor warehouse in
Raleigh.
Gerrell said police and the FBI were investigating.
