The Federal Communications Commission announced Thursday that Wilmington will be the first television market in the country to test the switch to using only digital broadcast signals. Starting at noon on September 8, all the commercial TV stations in Wilmington, including WWAY, will stop using their analog signals and broadcast only digitally.

Part of Carolina Beach Road is closed this afternoon, because of a fire at a junkyard. Heavy smoke is blanketing much of the area.
From the North, traffic is being diverted to Sanders Road. From the South, traffic is being directed onto Myrtle Grove Road.

Ransom is a three-month-old dachshund mix up for adoption at the Topsail Humane Society in Hampstead. Ransom was a victim of abuse early in life.
