Whitley sentenced Thursday for killing bike rider

A 20-year-old Wilmington man was sentenced this afternoon for killing a bicyclist on River Road last year. Jordan Whitley pleaded guilty to felony death by motor vehicle in the death of Phillip Tidmarsh.

City now says Pandora's Box violates zoning

Lawmakers discussed reforms to annexation laws in our state on Thursday. So far, a house judiciary committee has ruled against allowing homeowners to vote on whether they want to be annexed, something anti-annexation activists asked for.

Pender County man behind bars for alleged crimes involving 9 year old

A Pender County man is behind bars for crimes involving a nine-year-old girl. Fifty-seven-year-old Paul Sorrells was arrested Wednesday and charged with three counts of first-degree statutory sex offense and three counts of indecent liberties with a child.

Coast Guard helps build Habitat home

They're usually busy protecting the waterways in our area. Today they traded in their sea legs for tool belts. Members of the Coast Guard's Marine Safety Unit Wilmington helped build a new home for Habitat for Humanity on Prices Lane in Wilmington.

Teacher reference policies under the microscope

videoFormer Williston Middle School teacher Jessica Wishnask was accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a fifteen-year-old student. Before that, she resigned from Williston after being suspended twice and managed to move on and teach in another county, partially because New Hanover County schools gave her a good recommendation.
