Local beach favorite closes for the season

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- A local Carolina Beach favorite has closed up shop, if you're in the mood for Britt’s donuts, you're out of luck until the spring. They've always closed up the last weekend in September. In the old days, the Carolina Beach boardwalk used to be a ghost town after Labor Day.

Owner Bobby Nivens said, “we've been here about 71, 72 years now, and that's the way we have always done it. A lot of our customers sort of like it like that because it gives 'em something to look forward to coming back in the spring.”

Bobby and his wife, who run the shop together, work every day during the summer, so it gives them a chance to rest, and it keeps customers wanting more.

I have been going to Britt's since my honeymoon 18 years ago! We love you guys - we have a place at Sea Colony and love the doughnuts! I know they need a break! See ya next Summer! The Bynums, Ellerbe, NC

Now we'll see more and more cops landing themselves on the front page of the newspaper! No doughnuts = bad cops.

I enjoy little articles like this one. We see all the negative things in the world everyday so why not shead a little light on a well-liked beach business. Britt's donuts are awesome! I recently moved to the area from Pennsylvania and I've go to say that they are truly the best donuts I've ever had the pleasure of eating. We were so disappointed earlier this week when we were at the beach and they weren't open. Can't wait until the spring!

This is news? Can WWAY provide a list of all closures so as not to show favoritism?

WECT and Starnews have covered this aswell , It is a very well liked local instituion maybe you should have had 1 or 2 donuts yourself as to not be so bitter. Can't wait until March!

Saw all the hype about Britts donut, I had one about a month ago to try it out, it looked like someone took a bite out of it, vey small and tasted average. I was very dissapointed.

I'm withya! He needs a dozen to get those wrinkles off his forehead!

No matter how good of a local institution, there's always going to be some SOUR-PUSS, whining, nay-sayer to try and knock it down.

Britts has BY FAR the very best donuts that are available! They are Number one and deserve every bit of favoritism they can get!

There's my plug for favoritism! SeeYa in March Britts! Thanks for being part of my summers!
