It is a hard life for some car dealers right now. In the face of $4 a gallon gasoline, it's not easy trying to sell some of the cars that eat up much of our money trying to get from here to there. WWAY spoke with some car dealers today that said their lots have been a lot quieter lately. Local car dealers are experiencing lower SUV sales since gas prices have sky-rocketed. People are not tempted to buy a gas guzzling SUV that gets only 15 miles to the gallon. Some dealer's like Rippy's Hummer have more fuel efficient SUV options like the H3. It gets 20 miles to the gallon, which is a number that is comparable to other mid-sized SUVs. But, dealer's admit, these high gases prices are not helping them scoot their cars and trucks off the lot, unless they are super fuel efficient. Allen Rippy Jr., Rippy's general sales rep., said, "The main issue we have seen in the big, big SUV's. The H2 has slowed down a little bit, but the H3 continues to remain steady, as does the other small and medium sized SUVs in our line up." Other dealers in Wilmington are experiencing the same issues with their larger cars and SUVs. Local dealer's also told WWAY that the size of the vehicle does not necessarily determine its gas mileage. Some SUVs and larger sedans have the same gas mileage.
