A local high school student is helping the police and the military, as part of an assignment for school. For his senior project, Christopher Marshall learned to work with and train German Shepherds. The military and police use dogs, like Kia, to detect drugs and explosives. They are also trained for personal security protection. Christopher worked with canine trainers from Jacksonville to get the dogs ready to do their job. "These dogs help save people. They're over in Iraq helping people, helping soldiers and even here in Wilmington,” said Marshall. “They help use dogs to bust criminals with drugs and explosives at airports and everything so I think it's really important for protection." Kai showed Christopher’s teachers and fellow classmates his ability to detect a fake bomb placed under the wheel of a truck.
