Some local kids are spending part of their summer learning about law enforcement.
The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office is holding its annual Safe Summer Camp this week.
Kids got a demonstration today from the county's k-9 unit.
They have been spending the week with deputies learning about how law enforcement works, while also getting lessons in how to deal with peer pressure and learning to say no to drug and alcohol.
Safe Summer camper Jordan Smith said, "It's keeping us safe and its teaching us to not do bad stuff. And, we had a little presentation yesterday about alcohol because it messes up your body."
Kids also got to explore the new chopper and deputies' patrol cars.
