Six years ago Tuesday a local man was planning to celebrate his birthday when he learned of the terror attacks. In the days after the attacks Jimmy Gatlin of Council turned a song he and a friend had already written into a tribute to the victims of September 11. He said he was moved by how the terrible events of that day united Americans. Gatlin said, "Everybody came together. You know, like when some tragedy happens. I noticed in New York, and people from everywhere were coming. And that really meant a lot to me." Gatlin says he was also motivated when he found out a woman from his community, Tamitha Freeman, died in the attacks. He said it gave him a direct connection to what happened.
