Teams from eight schools including Laney and Hoggard competed in the Wade Edwards Mock Trial Regional Finals on Saturday. Teams argued hypothetical cases against one another and were judged by members of a jury. Judge Jay Hockenbury said the competition helps prepare students for the real thing. “It's just like a trial, and they have to think like an attorney. They have to think out themes, they have to think of what they're going to testify to and cross examination and how to cross examine people.” The teams each competed in three rounds on the day's docket. Winners will compete for the state championship in charlotte next month.
