Local schools locked down after shooting

READ MORE:
WILMINGTON -- For the third time in the past two months a number of local schools went on lockdown Wednesday. This time it was in response to a shooting on 11th and Orange Streets. Investigators say a man was shot in the hip. He was taken to New Hanover Regional with minor injuries. Because the shooter fled the scene, New Hanover High, Gregory, Williston and St. Mary's Schools all went on lockdown. No arrests have been made. New Hanover High Principal Chris Furr says the temporary lockdown was just as a precaution since students were about to change classes. Furr adds that had the students been in the middle of class, a lockdown wouldn't have been necessary.

Don't judge

What about your regard for humanity? You shouldn't judge someone you don't know, this person still is a person and no matter what didn't deserved to be shot

Another "entrepreneur" taken down

Can't wait to here about how special this victim was and how bright his future was. Another one with a lengthy criminal history and no regard for humanity.

lockdown

I wonder why the article states that the principal says if the students were in the middle of class they would not have had to lockdown. Could the shooter not have gotten in the school and randemly opened fire inside a classroom? I find that statement disturbing.

I agree also

As a student attending New Hanover High School, I think New Hanover is just to open to the public. The only way they can protect us is by making us were IDs, but who cant get someone elses ID and wear it around school. No one would know if they were a student or not. New Hanover has to do better about their students safety, other wise they won't have many students left!

I agree

I agree with you. I don't think it should have mattered whether students were in class or during class change. They should have been on lockdown. This appears to be a specific shooting and not a random act of violence, but I still wouldn't want children out walking around

Getting to be like Iraq

Getting to be like Iraq around here. Time to send in the troops and clean up these drug dealers who can't handle normal society.
