Local woman in running for T-shirt design competition

WILMINGTON -- The next time you visit a J. Jill boutique you could be buying a T-shirt designed by a local woman.

Kimberly Bardill entered the J. Jill "Nature of Compassion" T-shirt contest and was recently named one of the top ten finalists.

Ever since she can remember Kimberly Bardill has loved to draw. So when her father saw the J. Jill "Nature of Compassion" T-shirt contest he urged her to enter.

"My dad told me about it, he shops for me and my mom at J. Jill, there is some really unique jewelry and really unique original things in the store and he saw it and told me about it and said the nature theme reminded him of some of my work," Bardill said.

Bardill says she's often influenced by nature and the outdoors. It took her a few weeks of sketching and she came up with a bird, perched on a branch.

J. Jill chose her as one of its ten finalists. Bardill is delighted to have her sketch on display.

"It's already awesome that it's in a store on banners, but its really neat that people that shop at jjill are seeing my artwork."

You can take part in the contest by logging onto www.jjill.com and voting for Kimberly's sketch.

Once the voting is complete J. Jill will announce the winner and produce a limited edition t-shirt featuring the artist's design.

Bardill already has plans in mind if she wins.

"Well, I get to take a female and you go to this place it really sounds nice, they offer an abstract painting course that I would love to take and I want to take my mom, I really want to take her so she would be my female companion on the trip."

The winning T-shirt will be sold for $24.50. J. Jill will donate 100 percent of the profits to its J. Jill Compassion Fund, which supports community-based organizations helping poor and homeless women get back on their feet.

You can log onto J. Jill's web site to view the other nine contestants and vote for your favorite one.

The winners design will be made into a special edition T-shirt.
