A familiar face from the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office wants the top job when Sheriff Sid Causey retires this summer. Thursday afternoon, retired Major David Smithey plans to announce he wants to be considered by the Democratic Party to be Causey's replacement. Causey opted to take an early retirement package from the county, and will step down July 1st. Recently, Sheriff Causey recommended Chief Deputy Ed McMahon take his place.

Oh my gosh, what he has in the closet doesn't really matter. The thing is I don't know him, so I really can't say if he would be good, great, or bad for the job. One thing I do know is that EVERYONE has some skeletons in the closet. We all have things we wished we had never done, or are ashamed we did in the past. But right now what matters, it's just like I said NOW.
i know major david smithey would be the best man to lead our city against crime. He would make a difference in our community that is well needed. He is an upstanding man in our community and a Godly man. Which in turn will help this city get back to the basics of what a community should do and act with one another. People need an official who has the authority to make change. Wilmington needs a good Godly authority to make this change. I truely wish our community would help put major smithey as our Sherriff
David is the man for the job. I have known David for almost 30 years. He is the man New Hanover county needs. When my wife and I heard that there would be a new sheriff. David Smithey was the first name that we thought about. I am sure he is the man for the job.
If Smithey can cut out the wasteful spending that Causy has created, why not give him a shot.
Having worked with both Smithey and McMahon I am going to support Smithey.
