Man charged with animal cruelty in puppy's death

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- A 17-year-old boy from Parkton has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly beating a puppy to death. Authorities in Cumberland County say Jeffrey Pomeroy broke into his former girlfriend's residence last week and took the one-week-old puppy from a kennel. He allegedly took the puppy to his aunt's house and beat it to death with a baseball bat, set it on fire and buried it in the backyard. Pomeroy was arrested last night and charged with breaking and entering and cruelty to animals, both felony charges. He was also charged with possession of stolen goods.
