Man flees from police after being pulled over, crashes into another vehicle

READ MORE: Man flees from police after being pulled over, crashes into another vehicle
Wilmington police are currently in route to arrest a man on felony charges. He was initially stopped for speeding over the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge this afternoon but now he's in much bigger trouble. Police say Darelle Young of Leland gave officers his driver's license, then sped off. He caused an accident, fled the scene, and was on the run for hours. He finally gave up the chase and agreed to turn himself in, but not before getting himself into a huge mess. After being pulled over, Young gave Officer Scott Holzberger his license and vehicle information, then sped off. "At that point in time, I tried to catch up to him and he was able to elude us by speeding, getting away,” Officer Holzberger said. That's when witnesses say Young blew through a red light at Fifth and Castle, hitting the car driven by Bertha Moses, who was driving home from work. "Really, I can't say I’m angry, I’m just really right now blessed more than anything because I’ve seen people just have light accidents and not live through them, but if I can talk today, it's a miracle,” Moses said. Young then fled the scene of the accident and drove a couple more blocks where he ditched his rental car with his cell phone inside. He took off his shirt, and hit the ground running. Young was on the loose for several hours but because police had Young's license and cell phone, they were able to identify him and call his mother. Young is being charged with two felonies, hit and run and speeding to elude police. Young has several previous charges as well, including possession of drugs and a firearm.
