Man shocked with Taser dies of excited delirium

READ MORE:
STATESVILLE, N.C. -- An autopsy has concluded that a North Carolina man who was shocked with a Taser died of excited delirium. The Statesville Record & Landmark reported Monday the autopsy report also revealed that 29-year-old Anthony Davidson had traces of cocaine in urine samples taken shortly before his death. Dr. Deborah Radisch of the state medical examiner's office said excited delirium "causes the sudden cardiorespiratory collapse and arrest following an agitated state" that requires the use of restraints. She said the condition is generally seen when cocaine or another stimulant is used. Davidson died in July after being arrested for shoplifting at a grocery store in Statesville. Authorities have said officers used Tasers after Davidson became uncooperative in jail and tried to run. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)

taser

All I have to say to "kool" is if you think that you can do a better jobs than the officers that are out there now, why don't you go thru the academy and get your butt out there on the street and "handle things like a man" just go out there without anything except your hands and see how you handle things....don't critize until you have walked in the shoes!!!!!

TASERS

they should stop useing them. way to many people have died. the police use way to much force. just like the kid that got murderd at his own home. for stealing a vidio game. it makes me sick. ever heard of rubber bullets or a phone. they could have called that boy. told him to come out side and give him self up. but no they want to act like god. bum rush and kill some one. unless a crook has a gun or is comeing at you with a knife. then you should not use this kind of force. its way to crule to tase some one. or to shoot some one. eather use rubber bullets or football tackel him. the use of this forse just showes me that most cops are just little punks. to scared of doing their job the right way. if you cant take a man down with out useing a taser or a gun then you dont need to be a cop. and from what i see in our police force. not saying that we dont have some good strong cops. but at least half are little wimps that i could take on with out a hitch. stop hireing wimps. only hire real men. the kind of guyes that would be a foot ball star. or a solder. or a boxer. not a little tinker bell painsy punk cop. who thinks he's bad because he wears a badge. but has to use his gun or taser. because he is to scared to be a man.

Dear Joe Friday/Superman

You do not call the suspect and tell him to come out and surrender WHEN YOU'RE SERVING A SEARCH WARRANT, EINSTEIN!!! It gives him all the time in the world to destroy the evidence! Second, it is NOT the job of any police officer to go toe-to-toe with a suspect in order to affect the arrest. It is the officer's job to control the situation and as soon as you are fighting with the suspect, you have lost control of the situation. Far too many officers are injured in physical altercations every year, which is why they use batons, tasers, and other non-lethal forms of subduing a suspect. Third, I don't care how big and bad you are, there is someone out there who can clean your clock. I was nearly beaten unconscious in one fight and likely would have wound up dead had backup not arrived when it did. That was pre-taser days, and if I had had something like a taser, the outcome would have been far better for both the suspect and me. I highly encourage you to spend four or five years in remedial spelling and English Composition classes, then go for your BLET certification. You can get out there and straighten everyone out, I'm sure.

Right...

I'm not going to say you're stupid, because that doesn't help anything. But you are ignorant, because you obviously don't understand how the whole "use of force" thing works, nor do you understand that there are policies that police must follow (which is why even a football player/boxer/wrestler-kind-of cop will still use a taser and not tackle a guy!) It's easy to be the arm-chair quarterback and say what you would have done in a situation when you have the chance to look back at what other people have already done. Don't be that person, it's foolish.

Say it

I'll say it for you, this guy is extremely stupid and ignorant.

If you won't say it, I will.

If you won't say it, I will. He's stupid. He's really, really stupid.

excited delirium

Why do you think they call it dope anyway? A shoplifting doper thinks he's gonna "give it to the man". I'm sure he was a good boy, never had any problem with the law. When are people going to learn. Don't fight with the Cops. When you bring it on yourself "don't be hating" the Cops.

There ya go...

Another reason why you shouldn't do drugs.

Who do u think u r

You need to chill. You wouldn't believe how many people you deal wit that have money and are undercover users.

I'm chillin' yo

I'm not too sure what your comment has anything to do with what I said, but I'll try to clarify what I meant by my commment. I said that this story shows that there's another reason not to do drugs. My point was, as the article pointed out, that because the guy had cocaine inside him, he was at a hightened state of delirium, and that's the reason the taser ended up killing him. SO, had he NOT doped up, he wouldn't have died from the taser because he wouldn't have been in a state of excited delirium. Get it? Nothing good ever comes from doing drugs, not even that temporary high. Drugs don't make anyone's life better, no matter how much money they have.
