Many ILM flights canceled because of weather

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The snow is not only affecting travel on the roads. It's putting a stop to air travel, too.

On the way to Wilmington International Airport today, the main lanes on MLK Parkway were pretty clear, but the off-ramp to the airport hadn't been touched.

There was barely any traffic going in to or out of the airport by car or plane. The majority of flights are canceled or delayed, including Mario Favaits's. He said he's trying to get to Germany by tomorrow evening to meet with his boss, but he doesn't think it's going to happen.

"I went skiing last week, and I had enough snow. When I saw the palm trees here, I didn't expect any snow, so I was shocked," Favaits said. "And now it's delaying my dinner, but, hey, I've been stuck in airports before, so I'll get over it."

Favaits said Wilmington is nice, but he hopes he doesn't have to spend too much time here, especially stranded in the airport.

So you don't get stranded, make sure to check your flight status online or over the phone before making the trek to the airport.
