Marine biotechnololgy looking to expand jobs

Marine biotechnology may be where the jobs are for the future. Dozens of marine biotechnology scientists and experts from across the state held a symposium Wednesday to discuss what they have researched and discovered in the field of bioenergy processing and business. They are putting their heads together to see what kind of new jobs they can create in North Carolina related to marine biotechnology. Randall Johnson who works for the NC Biotechnology center said their goal was “Creating jobs around bio fuels from marine sources, pharmaceuticals for marine sources, neutra-pharmaceutics, and a full range of revenue producing opportunities for businesses, existing businesses and creating new business throughout the region.” Biotechnology uses technology to manipulate living cells to help meet human needs. One of the things scientists and experts are working on is using algae as a biofuel.
