CHERRY POINT, N.C. -- Marines from an air group based in the Carolinas are returning after being deployed to Afghanistan.
Approximately 120 Marines from Marine Aircraft Group 40 are scheduled to return early Tuesday. The unit is made up of squadrons from Cherry Point and New River, N.C. and Beaufort (BEW'-fert), S.C. The unit was created last year to support the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade in southern Afghanistan.
The unit flew missions primarily in Kandahar and Helmand provinces.
