Arrest made in Market Street chase

We now know who was behind the high-speed chase that ended in Wilmington Friday night. The chase finally ended around 8 o'clock Friday night at the parking lot of the Days Inn on Market Street. That's where the driver, 41-year-old Jeffrey Lynn Cook, hit two New Hanover County Sheriff's deputies' cars before crashing into a curb. Cook then tried to escape on foot, but authorities caught up with him. The chase was apparently drug related. Authorities say Cook was involved in a drug deal, which prompted him to flee from police. He is currently facing a slew of charges including DUI, three counts of assault with a deadly weapon against an officer and two counts of property damage. Authorities also tell us Cook is charged with attempting to alter, steal or destroy criminal evidence. Cook is currently being held on $45,000 bond. The Sheriff's office can't confirm what prompted the chase; that investigation is still ongoing.
