Market Street's El Berta Motor Inn to close down Sunday

A Wilmington fixture is closing its doors. Whitey's El Berta Motor Inn has been part of the Market Street landscape for 55 years, however it'll be torn down to make way for other commercial development. The motel has a dozen full time employees. The Prevatte family, who owns the business, plans on helping them find jobs. The El Berta will close after the last guests check out on Sunday, but Whitey's Restaurant will remain open.

What commercial businesses are coming to this area. There are so many vacant business on Market Street now, what is going to happen in about ayear from now when they go out of business.

Whitey's Restaurant will remain open...until they settle with DOT on a purchase price and then it too will be demolished for Kerr Ave expansion.
