It was a close vote along party lines, but 39 Democrats crossed the aisle to vote against the health care reform bill late Saturday night including Mike McIntyre, even though he believes reform is necessary. "There is no doubt: Republican, Democrats, Independents agree the current system is not sustainable the way health care costs are, insurance premiums are. My concern is how do we do that. And this bill was not the way to address that,” McIntyre said. McIntyre says while the bill offered additional coverage, it did nothing to address the climbing costs of health care. "I think the bill was too heavy on the taxpayers and too light on the insurance companies, and we need to be heavy on the insurance companies and light on the taxpayers." McIntyre also said he did not like the requirements it put on businesses, especially in the face of a slumping economy and soaring unemployment. He said the bill did not adequately address Medicare reimbursements, which he said are key to bringing more affordable health care in rural areas. Still, the bill is moving on to the Senate, where at least one Republican said it is dead on arrival. McIntyre agrees. "The Senate has already said that they will not have a public option in their bill, that they can't get 60 votes in the Senate." Many Senate Republicans, like McIntyre and his fellow blue dog Democrats in the House, are also worried about the plan adding to the national debt. If the Senate votes down the reforms, McIntyre says the issue will not dominate the debate in Congress as it has for months. Instead, he says it will still be a focus for members as they also move on to other important issues. Health care reform will be at the forefront for a while longer. McIntyre says he does not expect a vote from the Senate until after Christmas.

Excellent. I am glad to hear

Excellent. I am glad to hear Mike is sticking to his word. The cost of health care may be high, but a Govn't run process is not good. Look at the cost of Meidcare and the lost money by the USPS. Obama said it himself that the USPS looses $$'s. Senoir's still have to have supplemental insurance.

Congressman McIntyre

I heard on the news last week that Nancy Pelosi met with the blue dog Democtats who may be at risk in the next election of losing. It is reported she gave 40 Congressman the okay to vote no once she was sure she had enough votes to pass this bill. I just wonder if Congressman McIntyre was one of those who got the nod from her to vote no in order to secure his re-election?

Thank you

Mike for making the right decision for this state and country. You are a beacon for all politicians. This bill will devestate small business, their owners and the employess. I don't understand why the democrats want to push all these issues at once instead of concentrating on the economy. Oh wait power and control....

McIntyre has no plan or leadership

Hello everyone. Let me remind all of you that McIntyre committed the following huge sins: 1. He voted for Pelosi twice to be speaker of the house. (We would not have this healthcare mess in the first place without her) 2. He became a liar by breaking his term limit pledge. 3. He has NO plan for healthcare except placing our government more in debt by expanding big government programs. (My plan-FairHealth- covers all Americans WITHOUT adding to the national debt) 4. McIntyre will do or say anything to try to get re-elected. 5. McIntyre refused to hold one public town hall meeting on healthcare in this district. (I held 2) Make this year different. Join my team. Thanks! Will Breazeale Republican Candidate for Congress www.awilltowin.com

Sins?

Sounds like youre another Republican who doesnt know the difference between religion and politics. Good luck with that.

Party

From what I have seen of both major political parties they are both full of liars, and most of them will say or do anything to get elected. Maybe it is time to elect someone from the Liberterian Party, or maybe someone who has no party affilliation.

Congressman, with this vote

Congressman, with this vote against healthcare, you may have just secured yourself another term in office. On behalf of myself and the rest of Wilmington, Thank you. Now if you could just talk to Mrs. Pelosi......

You just may get re-elected!

Mike McIntyre--you did the CORRECT thing by voting against this most recent health care reform bill.
  • nothing to address the climbing costs of health care
  • too heavy on the taxpayers
  • did not like the requirements it put on businesses
  • did not adequately address Medicare reimbursement
  • worried about the plan adding to the national debt.
  • However I disagree with you when you said, "we need to be heavy on the insurance companies" Heavy how? There is no rich person called INSURANCE COMPANY, you mess with them---you mess with us the voter. Increasing regulations on insurance companies is NOT what is needed. There are to many regulations on them as it is and that is why healthcare insurance is expensive. We need more private competition---not govt. intervention. Mike---stick with the desires of your voters and you'll still have a job! =)

    Career Politician

I am a conservative who will not be voting for Mr. McIntyre to return for his eighth term. I am opposed to the health care reform and I was glad to see his NO vote...but this man is a career politician who hides behind the Blue Dog label. Our country is on the brink of collapse due to greed , being out of touch with Main Street and incompetence by our elected officials. They are the primary players in our downfall and they have to be held accountable! You have alienated the liberals by not voting yes and the conservatives are circling the wagons and are not going to play your game anymore!

    Health Care

Representative McIntyre voted correctly on the Health Care Bill drafted by the house. The Representatives can put forth a bill they can be proud of and not increase the federal debt so much.

    Healthcare & Congressman McIntyre

This country which has the ability to give the best care in the world lags behind many countries in the delivery of that care to its citizens. Average life expectancy, infant mortality are just two areas where we lag behind many countries. While having the highest cost of healthcare in the world. This does not need to continue and it is within our grasp to change. Insurance companies who have "managed healthcare" to the benefit of their bottom line all too often at the expense of the lives and fortunes of those who cannot afford their rates and often by putting caps and denying coverage to those who could but found when put to the test their carrier; because of some fine print or limitations in their policies to people who have paid for years. I understand that the insurance lobby has spent in excess of $640M lobbying against reform. Question, is that considered "Marketing" expense at tax time. High on their shopping list priorities are those political hacks who wave a patriotic flag while pocketing the insurance companies largess and voting against reform that the majority of thinking Americans realize is needed. Enough with the scare tactics and lets get rid of McIntyre & Burr at the first opportunity. Hagan too needs to re-evaluate her position. Sincerely

    no vote

Seeing as NO congressperson pays ANYTHING for their health care and have the best healthcare in america, and WE PAY FOR IT and their paychecks, we should be allowed the same health care as they get. Since most of them are rich to begin with, they should pay for their own health care and expenses and let the money we have to give to the government pay for our health care.

    You are right

Thank You! You hit the nail on the head. None of this matters to those in Washington. They have their health care system and it doesn't matter what happens to you and I, they don't care. NOW - if they would have to go on the same health care as you and I, we might see something better!!!!!!!!!!!

    McIntyre Vote on Health Care

Kudos to Mike McIntyre for voting the way his constituents believe in regard to the Pelosi Health Care bill. This bill is outrageously expensive, and contains a public option, which the majority of Americans do not favor. Hopefully it is dead on arrival in the Senate.

I HAVE ALWAY VOTED FOR MR.

I HAVE ALWAY VOTED FOR MR. MC INTYER,BUT THIS TIME I AM NOT WITH HIM ON THIS VOTE, GOOD TIMMING ON THE VETERANS NEW HOME.

    Healthcare Reform

I just wonder how many of Mr. McIntyre's "constituants" have insurance? And, can he look their families in the eye when they lose a loved one when the loved one dies due to lack of health coverage or they lose their home due to out of control medical costs.

    Health care

Thank you Mike, for voting against this. Do we need health care reform? Yes, but I don't think this is a way to do it. This bill focus on only one part of the problem. Congress needs to focus on the total problem and that has to do with the Doctors and the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers. If you can build drug stores on every corner then you know there is a great markup in the sales of drugs. So, let's focus on the total problem and not part of it. When Congress puts a package together that will work for the people and they are willing to give up their special (high-end insurance) I will go along with health reform, but until they do, we need to make sure that a junk bill isn't passed. Nancy Pelosi made a very troubling statement after the Senate passed the bill. That they follow in the steps of the great people who have gave us Social Security and Medicare. People please look at what has happen to these programs. The Government has run both of these into the ground. They are broke or going broke and look at the money we have to pay out of our salary for these..

    sen mcintyre vote

Ask the congressmen if he has taken money from the insurance lobby. His no vote is unbelievable considering the lack of care in Bruswick county. He is playing polotics with peoples lives. People pay 7.5% on every purchase including food, clothing and medical perscriptions. The day of Dixiecrats are coming to and end hopefully we get representation for the people and not special intrests. Mr. McIntyre is no different than Mz Fox except she has the courage to let everyone know she is for the special intrests and a republican.

The ignorance of some of the

The ignorance of some of the posters here is appalling. Some of them are so uninformed that they actually think they are going to get free health care from Pelosi and Company. The proposals in this bill will make the healthcare system worse than it already is. Reform is needed, but reform means improvement, not what Pelosi and her ilk are proposing. I applaud Mr. McIntyre for voting against this, but as a conservative I still take issue with his support of the so-called "stimulus" and other liberal policies. We desperately need health care reform, but it must be something that will work, not further bankrupt our country, and will not reduce the quality of care.

    McIntyre's vote

I will never again support, donate to, or vote for Mr. McIntyre. If he gives up his government funded insurance, I might reconsider because that would say this was a vote for principle. Otherwise, he sold his vote to the insurance industry.

    WOW

the will of the people prevails against party lines....I'm BOTH SHOCKED AND PROUD!
