McMahon starts first full term as sheriff

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- He's been on the job for about a year and a half. This morning Ed McMahon was sworn in as New Hanover County Sheriff after winning election for the first time.

McMahon took over as sheriff last year after Sid Causey retired. McMahon easily won November's election to keep the job for at least four more years.

He said today's swearing in was hard to put into words.

"Very humbling day for me," McMahon said. "It's such an honor, such a great responsibility. At the same time it's so exciting to have reached this goal and have the opportunity to serve the citizens and lead this great sheriff's office."

McMahon says looking ahead he plans on getting out into the community more and trying to make sure everyone knows the Sheriff's Office is there for them.
