Misconduct allegations in NHC Fire Department

READ MORE: Misconduct allegations in NHC Fire Department
ffalleg300.jpg
There are allegations of misconduct inside the New Hanover County Fire Department. Former firefighter Jeff Curran says he was fired yesterday for reporting an inappropriate relationship between two supervisors within the department. The firing came just days after Curran wrote a memo to the chief alleging the sexual relationship he says he witnessed at the firehouse. The memo asked for guidance in how to handle the situation. Curran had been with the department for two months. He was told yesterday he was being let go due to "personality differences." Curran believes he has the support of his coworkers. The International Association of Fire Fighters is helping Curran on how to proceed from this point. The New Hanover County Professional Firefighters association released a statement last night saying it is troubled by the allegations and wants an independent investigation to be conducted. Donald Ragavage, vice president of the Professional Fire fighters and Paramedics of North Carolina, who says he has sat in on previous meetings regarding harassment and discrimination within the county fire department, accompanied Curran yesterday.

YOU ARE MISTAKEN SIR......I

YOU ARE MISTAKEN SIR......I WILL BE THE ONE SERVING YOU !

Well? Let's have the other

Well? Let's have the other side of the story, then, if you know it so well.

firefighter conduct

Guess what? Taxpayers are not fond of paying county employees to engage in the aforementioned behavior on county property, while on the clock. I suppose they'll now say they "were on their lunch hour?" Jeez. Tell 'em to get a motel. Seriously: Whomever handles county HR should do the following: a) Rehire the whistleblower. He was correct to report the behavior which is contrary to generally accepted workplace behavior, and contrary to good order. b) Put the sexual perpetrators (if they are peers) on "final warning" and transfer each to separate work locations wherein their contact is limited. Inform them that no taxpayer assets are to be used in furtherance of their so-called relationship. Audit their phone logs and material requistions. If one is in a higher supervisory role than the other - he or she perhaps should be immediately terminated. c) Remind all employees regarding the rules about sexual harrassment and how to maintain a work environment that is not a "hostile" one.

Good Ole' Boy system

At it's finest. You scratch my...I'll...yours.

Don't believe everything you hear

Just remember... there is always AT LEAST 2 sides to every story. Perhaps the firefighter who lost his job should allow his employment record to be released- so that the official documentation will be out, instead of just hearsay.

PERSONALITY DIFFERENCES??????????? WHAT??????????

You mean sexual differences. A supervisor himself said there is on no policy about employee relationships or moral acts. I guess that a fireman or firewoman who is married can have an affair there at the station. Sexual acts are ok. Jeff Curran said the sexual act took place in an open area. Maybe Jeff Was fired for not injoying it. Ok enough of this. NFC FIREDEPARTMENT supervisors are embarrassing themselfs. Then again maybe they may like the attention. Firefighters in wilmington have been complaining about their pay. Heres a hint BE A PROFESSIONAL That you are to be.

Comment Firefighter

Turning your back on your brothers and sisters.. Would this guy have left his comrades to fend for themselves, in a burning building too?

fire fighter

Frank? What does him seeing 2 fellow FF's having a sexual relationship (he says he witnessed at the firehouse) have to do with his job performance in a fire?? Perhaps he walked in on them doing it and left them to fend for themselves. Was he suppose to join in on the sex-capades? This situation is in no way comparable to being in a burning building. He should not have been fired, the 2 people that were getting their jollies at work should be.

Fire Fighter

Das I completely agree. There is a TIME and PLACE for those activities and neither one involved being on the job at a community safe house. This has nothing to do with his work ethic. He is only reporting sexual harrasement and this is sexual harrasement. Frank, you are being extremely ungreatful because I'm sure he would not judge you if asked to run in your burning house and save you. Give the man some respect.

What's really going on?

It seems that every time we turn around there is some sort of sexual inuendo going on within our government offices. If it isn't the President of the United States, it's a Senator, a school official, a teacher, a police officer or two and now even our Firemen. I suppose the custodians and "Sanitation Engineers" are next up. Too bad I don't have time for all of that extra-curricular activity with my job. Or is maybe this indicative of the back stabbing, name calling and accusatory nature of working for the government in an effort to keep your job or climb up the old ladder?
