Miss Teen South Carolina makes her mark with flubbed response

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- This time, Miss Teen South Carolina handled the question a lot better.

After being stumped by a Miss Teen USA pageant question on live television Friday night, Lauren Caitlin Upton's confused, mangled response has drawn a lot of attention on the Internet.

Upton says she was in complete shock when she heard the question, misunderstood it, and made a mistake.

The 18-year-old, who plans to attend Appalachian State University in Boone (North Carolina), got a chance to redeem herself to on NBC's "Today" show this morning when she was again asked why one-fifth of Americans can't locate the U.S. on a map.

When host Ann Curry gave her the question again, Upton said that everyone she knows does know where the United States is, and that if a lot of people don't, there should be more emphasis on geography in school.
