Construction on the Wrightsville Beach bridge could be extended once again. Construction was scheduled to be completed by the end of February with carry over dates scheduled for the first week in March. Last week the Department of Transportation said they would need four more days for repairs the week of March 15th. Now officials say the work could continue until March 29th. “The time frame has been extended because we've had some conflicts with the fender system piling that is at an angle is conflicting with the sheet piling they're driving to install the coffer dam basically to enclose the area of repair,” said engineer Amanda Glynn. During construction the bridge will again be closed from 11:30 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. The DOT has reserved eight more construction days in case more time is needed. After that, one lane could be closed over night if more construction is needed.
