The troubles continue for state Senator R.C. Soles.
Mr. Soles has a law practice in the Columbus County town of Tabor City, and has recently had a number of run-ins with clients and ex-clients.
Since our first report aired last Thursday, Mr. Soles has pepper sprayed a client who showed up at his house. The client, Stacey Scott, walked to the Tabor City Emergency Services Building for help.
Police say another client of Mr. Soles, 16-year-old Allen Strickland, trespassed on the Senator's property on two separate occasions over the last few weeks, and stole a light fixture.
Police say Strickland learned Soles was considering pressing charges and threatened to call NewsChannel 3, the FBI, and Bettie Fennell, who is Soles' political challenger, with damaging information regarding Soles. He threatened to ruin Soles' political career and said he would see him in prison.
In response to that call, police arrested Strickland on charges of extortion. They also arrested another client of R.C. Soles, Ervin Jordan, who they say worked as an accomplice with Allen Strickland to steal the Senator's light fixture.
In a press release issued today, Mr. Soles said some of his clients have fallen on hard times, and were venting their frustrations on him.
Senator Soles said he did what was necessary to protect his property.
Long History
From what I hear from long time area residents, Senator Soles has a history of questionable behavior, as well as a long history in the North Carolina House and Senate. It appears North Carolinians are more open minded than many Americans believe.
And the Bible Belt does not fit so tightly here, as also believed.
What will happen? I imagine a long Democratic history in the NC Legislature will go a long ways.

senator soles does have a long history that is questionable. as far as being in the legislature for a long time, that doesn't mean anything. he has bought his way all these years by appearing to have a solid grassroots setup. i bet he wonders sometimes how many of these people would be hanging around him if he didn't pay them for everything they do, good or bad, to keep him elected.
he's like a spoiled rich brat that thinks he can always get what he wants.
as far as the bible belt not being tight in this area, where did you transfer here from?
this year you will see how tight the bible belt is in the area. north carolina for the longest time has voted conservatively and i hope this year, all north carolinians will make me proud and keep it conservative.
just wait and see. north carolinians are not as liberal as the rest of the country and i thank God for that!!!!!!!

R.C. Soles, Jr and his boys
I think Senator Soles and his boys are both sick. If these boys have something to say, why don't they just go ahead and put it out there and if any criminal acts have occurred, let the authorities deal with it.
I just don't understand why these boys keep getting criminal charges placed against them but at the same time they keep protecting Senator Soles. So far he doesn't have anything charged against him.
Think about it boys if you read this comment.

It may rain on Senator Soles, but twice when it was raining on me and I needed help from State Agencies I wrote Senator Soles and both times received a response the following day and on one occasion he had already contacted the appropiate people and I heard from them first. I hope to see him in Burgaw this week and if it rains we'll both get wet, and in November too.

Welcome to Southeastern North Carolina. The "good ol'boy" network. But in Soles case I guess its the "good young boy network". I was under the belief everyone knew about Mr. Soles and his alternative entertainment activities.

At a BIG, disqusting cost of course. Anywhere else, the man would be in jail. In NC, he's viewed as a damn hero. Come on 14-16 years old is NOT of legal age. It's molestation at best. As long as those families keep taking pay offs, he'll keep preying. And getting away with it.

He tried that stuff on me whin I wes 15 years old. I am now 62 years old. I left in 1963, I came home 40 years later to see what he had done to help Columbus County. Look at Tabor City, down town Whiteville, Chadburn, Fairbluff. I don't know about the other two counties. What about our medical treatment facilities? The only thing he has done for Columbus county is bring a Federal Prison to our front door. The man is a sex preditor thta should be in jail. Getting his jollies off young boys. He has been doing it sence the early 60's I know. He has some mean helpers.

I've only been in Tabor City a couple years and am amazed at how many people turn a blind eye to Soles sick behavior and his link with 14-25 year old boys. The way he pays for their favor, providing cars, money and free legal representation. They boys and their families may not talk but if anyone in law enforcement cared, I'm certain it would be easy for them to get the information needed to indict Soles. It speaks more to Tabor and the State of NC that they continue letting this pedophile represent them because they like the couple of things he has done for them.
Somebody should investigate.

You can go to the court house in Tabor on Friday and look at the people he represents, mostly crack heads and thieves, not to mention the numerous rumors envolving wreck checks with the same people. If someone would take a deep look at him and town manager who knows what you might find. Town manager manages three (3) towns, what a conflict of interest.
