Morning house fire closes New Center Drive

READ MORE:
WILMINGTON -- A house fire closed New Centre Drive in Wilmington for a couple of hours Wednesday morning. Wilmington Police saw the fire at four a.m. during a routine patrol. Police say the homeowner was the only person home, and came out unharmed. The fire was contained shortly after five a.m., but firefighters say the home is a complete loss. Homeowner Mack Watts says he's thankful to be alive, but devastated to have lost his home. "You feel terrible anyway you look at," Watts said. "I mean, good gosh, you don't start over at my age and with no insurance you just don't start over that easily." The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Homewoners insurance

I'm sorry fpr your loss especially at a time like this but,if you can't afford insurance don't you think it would be better to rent instead of gambling with everything you have? You see the odds of winning the lottery?

fire

I am sorry for this loss but why on earth do people not have home owners insurance?? That is insane even if the house is paid for.

I UNDERSTAND...SOMETIMES YOU

I UNDERSTAND...SOMETIMES YOU JUST CAN'T AFFORD HOMEOWNERS' INSURANCE. IT IS ASHAMED TO WORK HARD TO OWN A HOME OR BE GIVEN A HOME AND THEN LOSE IT...AT NO FAULT OF YOUR OWN. GOD BLESS YOU...I HOPE SOMETHING WORKS OUT FOR YOU.

Not that expensive

Homeowners isn't that expensive and when you compare it to the cost of replacing your home and everything inside it is down right cheap. If you can't afford the $500-$1000 a year cost of homeowners insurance on a non-water front house, get a roommate, sell some stuff no longer used or get a better paying job.
