Most NC highways clear for Thanksgiving

RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- Most road construction in North Carolina is being suspended for Thanksgiving so motorists can get to the dinner table before all the turkey is gone.

The NC Department of Transportation says most work on interstate, NC and US routes will stop at 4 p.m. Tuesday and resume at 9 a.m., Monday. There are four exceptions.

The department says U.S. 17 Business in Jacksonville will be reduced to two-lane, two-way traffic on the New River bridge. It's also reduced to one lane in Windsor on the Cashie River Bridge.

Interstate 40 in Greensboro is reduced to two lanes in both directions between Wendover Avenue and Guilford College Road. Part of US 220 south of Asheboro will be down to one lane in both directions for widening.
