Motorcyclist dead after Market Street crash

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- The Highway Patrol says it looks like a motorcyclist's mistake cost him his life last night. Investigators say 25-year-old Robert John Novello, Jr., of Carolina Beach was driving his motorcycle south on Market Street in Ogden when he crossed the center line and hit a pick-up head-on. Novello died from his injuries. It happened around 9 p.m.

Troopers say a group of riders with Novello do not know why he crossed the line. Speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.

I lost a friend in a motorcycle accident about 3 1/2 years ago. His accident was at night as well. I wish laws would be passed limiting riding bicycles/mopeds/motorcycles from sunrise to sunset. They are hard enough to see during the middle of the day and near impossible when it gets dark. Also, the minimum age to get a motorcycle license should be older than it is now. I'm on the road for most of the day and I see young bikers all the time, weaving in and out of traffic, passing in between lanes of stopped cars and rapidly taking off that puts themselves and other motorist in danger.

That’s dumb,

why should you restrict something that people enjoy (and some cases their only mode of transportation)? Why not restrict cars from driving at night so they don’t hit motorcycles/mopeds/bicycles?

for the motorcycles driving dangerously there ARE laws restricting this. Improper lane change, reckless endangerment, speeding, improper passing, following too closely.

And i can tell you that it isn’t always the young that are driving stupid.

I think market street goes

I think market street goes east to west. Not north to south.
