Berry Gordy presided over the musical empire known as Motown. Now you get the chance to see a unique musical based on the music of Motown Records.
"The House that Gordy Built" is a tribute to the King of Motown. The cast stopped by Good Morning Carolina to give us a preview. The musical is more than just famous songs like "My Girl" and "You Can't Hurry Love" put together. Director Kevin Green created this musical to tell a story and honor the 50th Anniversary of Motown.
"This music deserves to be put into a musical like any other musical, you know like how they do the Beatles and the music of Billy Joel," Green said. "So I felt like these lyrics actually had a story so I took the songs and I put them together in an order that tells a wonderful story."
The show runs Thursday through Sunday at the Hannah Block Historic USO Community Center on Second Street in Downtown Wilmington.
