NC's Perdue open to broader Indian casino gambling

WHITTIER, N.C. -- North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue says the state hasn't ruled out Las Vegas-style card games at a Cherokee Indian casino in the Great Smoky Mountains. The Asheville Citizen-Times reported Tuesday that Perdue said state officials and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians have no negotiations under way to expand gambling at the 11-year-old casino. Perdue says working out a state budget and dealing with the recession have taken priority since she took office in January. The tribe has long sought state approval for live gambling at the Harrah's Cherokee Casino, which now offers video gambling machines and digital blackjack with a live dealer. Casino Gambling

I'm relatively sure Gov Perdue will approve just about anything if it will add more money to the budget for spending. Encouraging gambling is a poor example to set. And, the NC "Education" lottery has not significantly helped education in the state.
