NC appeals court: City can collect parking fines

GREENSBORO -- An appeals court says a North Carolina city can collect old parking fines and a Greensboro lawyer who had appealed says he has paid his back tickets. The News & Record of Greensboro reported Wednesday that the decision by the state Court of Appeals overturned a local judge who said the city of Greensboro didn't have authority to go after drivers with unpaid tickets. Attorney Kevin Morse was sued in 2007 by the city over more than $2,300 in unpaid tickets. Morse argued the city waited too long to sue, but the court said the one-year statute of limitations didn't apply to civil fines. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
