NC architects debate design advice for pennies

READ MORE:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- There is so little construction work on the horizon that some North Carolina architects are talking about selling building design advice at something like a lemonade stand

The Charlotte Observer reported Tuesday that local architect Tom Low proposed architects sell their expertise for pennies so that unemployed colleagues could generate some income and future jobleads. Low proposed the idea after reading a New York Times article about a Seattle architect setting up an advice booth.

Some architects and designers think the idea is beneath their profession.

The American Institute of Architects says U.S. architecture firms have seen two years of steadily revenue declines. About 40,000 licensed architects have lost jobs.
