NC to break ground on state's first toll road

READ MORE:
RALEIGH -- North Carolina is taking the initial step toward its first toll road. The N.C. Turnpike Authority will break ground at 10 a.m. Wednesday on the Triangle Expressway in Wake and Durham counties. The event will be held at the far western end of N.C. 540, where the road dead ends at the N.C. 55 exit. The road will coast just over $1 billion, paid for by bond proceeds and federal loans. State Transportation Secretary Gene Conti estimates that the project will create or preserve 30,000 jobs. The expressway is almost 19 miles and comprised of three segments: Western Wake Freeway, Triangle Parkway and the existing N.C. 540 between N.C. 55 and N.C. 54. The parkway is expected to open to traffic in 2011 and the freeway a year later. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)

Toll Road

Why not put a toll on I-95 and let out-of-state travelers help pay for our roads.....seems like that is what I do when I travel through their states up north.

Meanwhile

the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge continues to be one of the most unsafe bridges on the East Coast and no plans are in the works to replace it. They budget $1 BILLION for this freeway; yet can not budget for the Bridge. Guess we'll be watching the evening or morning news one day and watch the cars falling through the bridge and floating down to Southport.

That is because all they

That is because all they care about is money, not the safety and welfare of the public.

LOL

GREAT...we pay taxes to build roads, pay taxes, pay taxes, pay taxes...NOW we have to pay to drive on our own flipping roads!

Hey genius, toll roads are

Hey genius, toll roads are built with toll money so they DO NOT require tax money. Furthermore, if you never drive on this toll road, you'll never have to pay for it.
