NC city council unmoved on potbellied pig as pet

READ MORE:
FAYETTEVILLE -- A North Carolina family who wanted to keep a potbellied pig they said comforts their autistic son has failed to squeeze an exception out of city officials. The Fayetteville Observer reported Wednesday that the city council deadlocked on a proposal that would have allowed Loopey to return from a ranch to its home in a city subdivision. The council considered giving the city manager authority to grant exemptions to the hog ban under conditions that included a doctor's note saying the animal was needed to help treat a medical ailment. Lisa Pia and Bobby Tibbetts say the pig is therapeutic for their autistic 8-year-old son. Councilwoman Val Applewhite said resident hogs might hurt property values and generate bad odors. Difference between hog and pig.

In the USA the term hog refers to swine weighing more than 120 lbs. Pig refers to swine weighing less than 120lbs. If the law reads that there is a ban on hogs they could have an argument that they are not breaking the law by bringing home the pig. If the law specifically reads hogs only, swine only weighing more than 120lbs are banned. They might not have known that when they wrote the law. To the family that wants the pig, if you read this, research the law and see how it is written. See if the term hog, pig, or all swine is used. If they only used the term hog, the pot belly would not be banned unless it is more than 120lbs.

oders?

look im from fayettiville. and it stinks any way. with the plants down their.Maken dog food as well as cosmedics. and the oil and gas fumes. I realy dont think one pig is going to make much diffrence. wy not change the law to say one pig per home. pot belly pig that is.

Let the boy have a pet piggy!

What mean folks they have in their city council! I think a single pot-bellied pig is a far sight from a pen full of full sized swine which is what their statute is geared against.
