NC Gov Perdue begins trade mission to Japan, China

READ MORE:
RALEIGH -- Gov. Beverly Perdue's first overseas trade mission will focus on building ties with North Carolina's second- and fourth-largest trading partners - China and Japan. The 12-day trip begins Thursday. Perdue will arrive Friday in Tokyo in advance of a meeting that promotes commerce among eight Southeastern states and Japan. She'll travel next week to Beijing and later Shanghai, visiting businesses and meeting trade and government officials. There will be school visits in between. The state will pay about $77,000 for Perdue, Commerce Secretary Keith Crisco, four of their staff members and security. Corporations and economic development booster groups will pay $95,000 for business-related events. Perdue's husband, Bob Eaves, also will travel but won't go on the state's dime. Meanwhile

Dell announces the Winston Salem based plant which is closing and putting nearly 1000 North Carolinians out of work. Of course, not to worry, the computers will be built in Mexico and other off shore sites. The state unemployment rate hovers near 11%. Maybe the Governor's travel agent can find some way for her to work a Christmas Holiday trip in to pursue these lost jobs. Cancun is nice that time of year.

Hmmm

Just a guess, but I would assume the dell people losing their jobs were union? I would bet a decent amount of money on it...but then too I may be wrong. Just my knee jerk reaction when you see low-quality products coming off an assembly line like Dells

What about your own people?

The people of this state should shout through the roof tops at the governor first for spend 77,000 on a trip overseas (especially with China's track record) for trading. The enconomy is still bad despite what the so-called experts say. State employees had money taken away by force from their earnings and she is spending like theres no tomorrow. Oh yea, its not her dime. What is the world is wrong with promoting trading within your on state and country. We have businesses laying off and shutting down daily but we have to go outside our own borders for trading. That is just ignorant. Guess the people of her own home state do not matter!

No concept

You obviously have no concept of business in this country or you would realize that unions have pretty much ruined the possibility of production jobs happening here. Too expensive, for too little and too low quality work.
