NC kids getting healthier

By and large, North Carolina kids are getting healthier. The state just released the 2007 North Carolina Children's Health report card. Compared with the last report released five years ago parents are doing a better job breast-feeding their children and getting them adequate dental care. Teen pregnancy rates are down, and fewer kids are smoking, but more kids are obese now compared to five years ago. What's more, the number of children with health insurance has dropped 20 percent. By and large

The key word here is large. How are obesity rates among NC children? Those with free school lunch have a sugary, starchy, fatty meal perfect for developing habits that encourage weight gain, adult diabetes, heart disease, etc. I bet the numbers in this important health category are less encouraging.
