NC nursing home shooting suspect getting treatment

READ MORE:
CARTHAGE, N.C. -- A defense attorney says the man charged with killing eight people in a shooting rampage at a North Carolina nursing home still is being treated at a state prison hospital. Attorney Frank Wells said Monday that 45-year-old Robert Kenneth Stewart "is receiving some treatment at Central Prison hospital." Stewart was shot in the chest by Carthage police Officer Justin Garner, ending the March 29 assault at Pinelake Health and Rehab Center. Wells said his client had a hearing scheduled Monday in Moore County Superior Court on the murder charges, but that it won't be held because a county grand jury is meeting. Wells says he expects Stewart will be indicted by the grand jury, which would supersede the murder warrants. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
