NC order lets local businesses match bid prices

READ MORE:

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Gov. Beverly Perdue says North Carolina businesses should get a second chance to land state government contracts.

Perdue signed an executive order on Wednesday giving state businesses the opportunity to match the low-price bid of an out-of-state company for government contracts to purchase goods. The state would award the contract to a qualified North Carolina company if it can match the price.

Perdue says she hopes the order will help save jobs and cultivate growing businesses.

The offer would apply if the North Carolina firm's bid price is within 5 percent or $10,000 of the lowest bid, whichever is less.

Perdue also named Scott Daugherty to serve as the state's first "small business commissioner." He'll help coordinate small business assistance across state government.

Unethical, and destined to cost taxpayers more money

The entire reason for a sealed bid delection is to get the lowest price possible on the goods or services desired while being fair to **ALL** bidders.

If we allow in-state contractors a second chance to re-bid, what does that say?

Well, it begs the question, "Why weren't they the lowest bidder in the first place?" Were they trying to pad the profit at the expense of the taxpayer? If not, and they were bidding in-line with their expected cost, what corners are they going to cut to match the true low bidder?

What does it say to the out-of-state bidder? "We're not really interested in you or the quality of the work you'll provide. We're simply wasting your time to try and drive down bids from North Carolina contractors."

Trust me, it won't take long before they realize that they ARE wasting their time, and when the competition drops, the in-state contractors will loot us three ways from Sunday.

This is typical NC dirty corruption. How much were you paid, Bev?
